about kirk wilson...

Born in 1977 in Torrance, California, Kirk Wilson began his path to professional soccer at a young age. After moving to El Paso, Texas he began playing for youth soccer clubs and fell in love with the game at the age of 4.

His love for soccer continued throughout his youth, and he led multiple club and select teams to championship titles. As a senior at Coronado High in El Paso, Wilson was the captain and a starting member of the 1996 Texas State Soccer Championship team.

After graduating from Coronado, Wilson attended Drake University, where he received a full soccer scholarship. Before leaving Drake in 1998 to pursue his professional career, Wilson set several university records and was an all-conference player. It was during his tenure at Drake that Wilson played competitively with the Des Moines Menace.

After eaving Drake University, Wilson went to Germany to get some professional experience . Upon his return to the US, Wilson was offered a starting position with the El Paso Patriots, in USL- Division 1. During his first season with the Patriots, Wilson was runner up for Rookie of the Year for USL - Division 1, MVP of the Patriots, and was the leading rookie scorer in 1998. Wilson was also chosen for the US U-23 National Team.

After a successful season, Wilson was entered into the 1999 MLS Supplemental Draft, and was chosen as the overall 6th pick by the Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer (now know as FC Dallas). While playing with Dallas, he also played with Project-40, a team comprised of  up-and-coming MLS players.

After almost 2 seasons with Dallas, Wilson returned to the Patriots for one more season. In the spring of 2001, Wilson was signed by the USL Division 1 Championship and Lamar Hunt Open Cup Chamionship team, the Rochester Raging Rhinos in Rochester, New York. Wilson earned a starting role with the Rhinos, and became a vital member of the 2001 USL Divison 1 Chamionship Team.

Wilson played with Rochester until 2005, winning several league and division titles. While with the Rhinos, Wilson was a frequent member of the Division 1 "Team of the Week," a member of the all-time Rhinos "Elite Eleven," and in his final season was voted MVP of the Rhinos, USL Division 1 First Team, and was runner-up for MVP of the league

As a free agent in the fall of 2005, Wilson was signed by the Montreal Impact, also of the USL Divison 1. Wilson and his family moved to Quebec in 2006, and Wilson played his final professional season with the Impact.

In August of 2006, Wilson returned to Des Moines to go back to school, settle down with his family and give his 3-year-old son a permanent place to call home.
